When it is revealed that there is no actual evidence Admiral Chris Barrie states ‘I have now reached the conclusion, that there is no evidence to support the claim that children were thrown overboard ’ as well as this the prime minister attempts to save face by claiming that he simply passed on information that he was presented. The song seems comical at the beginning but goes on to become quite serious at the end. The song is partly in the techno format and had regularly repeats words continuously to gain the listeners attention and focus. This song helps listeners to be able to gain an overview on a situation that spread a few months and shifts the listeners perspective on the truth of the situation because the main and most significant quotes and accusations that government made have been collated into a song. Through the listening of the song it becomes clear how the government portrayed their own version of events so they would not loose face when dealing with the refugees and how when the government realized they had been caught telling the public lies and distorted versions of the truth they attempted to save face by passing the blame onto someone else. Frontline is an excellent example and tool when studying the elective ‘Telling the Truth’ because Frontline blurs the line between fiction and fact and implies that current affairs television similarly blurs that line, reducing its usefulness to the viewing public. It is commonly accepted that viewers expect current affairs television to assist them in exploring, testing, refuting or endorsing truth statements made in the public arena. Frontline uses the tools of satire, parody, exaggeration and humour, to test the authoritative voice and ultimately refute its ability to make truth statements. It uses the behind the scenes frame story to characterise Mike as foolish, ego driven and superficial in direct contrast to his on screen persona. Mike is also juxtaposed against the journalists Marty and Brooke and the researcher Emma, who are all makers of truth statements. Both Brooke and Marty are also seen both on and off screen. Brooke is represented on screen as sincere and compassionate, while Marty is the serious investigator, both representations in direct and humorous contrast to their off screen character. All are shown to be compromised by the commercial imperatives of a network current affairs programme. Frontline episode The Siege reveal to us that truth is often pushed into the background as the media strives for a good story. Truth is ignored and vital stories deemed irrelevant not pursued leaving an audience with misconceptions of reality. The relentless pursuit for ratings and intrusive journalism take a hand, with those who own the power manipulating the truth. Through Brookes use of irony in this episode we see firsthand the use of power in the pursuance of ratings at all costs. Ethics are abandoned in desperation to be the first with coverage, with Frontline continually crossing the line for exclusive interviews and footage; †¦one media organisation breaking the air-exclusion zone. The relentless pursuit for ratings at all costs is also shown again in Brooke’s interview with the gunman’s mother. Upon realizing the effect on the ratings the grandmother of the children held hostage could have, Brooke unapologetically asks Would you be able to cry again? . This is highly intrusive, abrupt, and heartless and clearly shows that in the world of journalism ratings appear to be everything. †¦a pub crawl in Manly is better than a massacre of millions if youve got the pictures. This shifts the responders perspective of the events portrayed because Frontline selectively used information to portray a story that would gain them the highest ratings as well as the fact that they could portray their own version of the events because they exclusive i nterviews of the events. Frontlines episode We Aint Got Dames is based around the relentless pursuit for ratings coupled with public interest. After losing its female audience, Frontlines solution to the problem is to present an patronizing response†¦ What do they wanna see? †¦Tonight on Frontline meet the Queen Mum. In this condition, the political party that gave birth to Taiwan, the  Guomindang  or GMD was formed and so was the ruling party in China, the Chinese Communist Party  (CCP). These two political parties however begun as allies in Southeast China in their effort to crush the warlords in 1923 that caused the civil war in China. The alliance however was short lived because it collapsed within four years and the two political parties became bitter enemies that precipitated another civil war. GMD’s generals pledge loyalty to its new leader Chiang  Kai ­shek and formed a new Republic of China in Nanjing and later formed a new ROC government in Nanjing in 1927 (Myers 1). Chiang  Kai ­shek had the upper hand over the CCP in 1937 as Chiang  Kai ­shek army drove the Communists into the Northwest region of China. Japan however attacked China in July 1937 to make Chiang  Kai ­ shek ROC a client state of Japan. The attack was thwarted because Taiwan and China again forged an alliance to defeat Japan. This alliance lasted for eight years until Japan was defeated in August 15, 1945. During this time, Chiang  Kai ­shek also allied with the United States which lasted until 1949. China on the other is building up its forces beginning in the Autumn of 1945 when it begun amassing weapons from the Russians in Manchuria. It also initiated land reform in the countryside as a precursor to Maoist strategy of encircling cities by cutting them off from the countryside. The strategy coupled with superior weapons proved to be effective in defeating Chiang  Kai ­shek’s forces and advanced further towards Northern China until finally, CPP soldiers captured Beijing on January 31, 1949. Months later, Mao declared the founding of the new  Chinese  state in October 1, 1949 which is the  People's Republic  of  China (13). Chiang Kai-shek on the other han d retreated to Formosa which is now Taiwan to seek refuge from Mao’s advancing armies (Ford 36) which it still continue to occupy until this day. II. Description of the various conflict management techniques used, the third parties that were active in attempts to resolve the conflict, and the outcomes of these conflict management efforts. Efforts however were made to reconcile Taiwan and China after Mao’s declaration of People's Republic  of  China or PROC as we know it today. On April 27, 1993, China and Taiwan begun negotiating the various Interpretations of Taiwan’s relationship  to  China,  or  the  "one ­China" principle† (Myers 1). The negotiation however was conducted and represented by third party private agencies. Taiwan was represented by Straits Exchange Foundation or SEF while China was represented Association for Relations across the  Taiwan  Strait,  or  ARATS. The negotiation however was short lived and collapse when President Lee Teng ­hui visited the US for a public address at Cornell University (Myers 1). The technique used in the attempt to resolve the conflict was negotiation by third parties composed of private NGOs. The negotiation however did not prosper because no confidence building measure was initiated by both parties. The negotiation finally collapsed when Taiwan’s President Lee Teng ­hui antagonized the Chinese by a visit to the Communist ideological nemesis, the US.

Aeration and Fermentation Essay Brewing is a fermentative process which converts carbohydrate rich raw materials into beer using yeast catalysts such as Baker’s yeast and species of Saccharomyces. Water quality and aeration conditions influence beer quality to a greater extent. Of these two, aeration plays a vital role. Aeration and Fermentation: Studies revealed that yeast cells propagation was doubled when cultured under prolonged aerobic conditions as compared to discontinuous aeration. Moreover, increase in cell growth was proportional to aeration volume, mainly due to the synthesis of sterols and unsaturated fatty acids which are important elements of the yeast cell membrane. Under batch fermentation, aeration affected 1st fermentation; nevertheless, successive fermentation was yeast strain dependent. Chul (2002) observed significant differences in levels of aroma compounds obtained with yeast propagated under different aerobic conditions. However aerobic conditions were not found to affect the levels of diacetyl.   According to Chul et al (2007), continuous aeration during yeast propagation directly influenced yeast metabolism, fermentation ability and beer quality. Microbial contamination risks: Certain groups of micro-organisms pose contamination risk in brewing. Most hazardous beer spoilage microbial agents are the species of Lactobacilli, Pedicocci and Micrococcus kristinae. Lactobacilli are gram-positive, facultative, anaerobic bacteria. Some species of Lactobacilli which are the common beer spoilage organisms are said to operate using homofermentative metabolism, by lowering the pH of fermentation process by producing lactic acid. These species are generally resistant to hop compounds. Lactobacillus brevis has the ability to ferment dextrins and starch and its contaminations in beer cause turbidity and super-attenuation (Vaughan et al. 2005). Pediococci are also homofermentative bacteria, which normally grow in pairs or tetrads, and are found in finished beers and wort fermentations. Presence of Pediococci leaves behind fermentable sugars in beer even after fermentation, thus causing ropiness. Micrococcus kristinae is an aerobic, gram-positive coccus occurring in tetrads or groups of four, forming pale cream to pale orange colonies. The primary habitat is the mammalian skin (Microbial glossary). Most of the strains are non-pathogens but some tend to be opportunistic pathogens. These species can grow in beer with significantly lower levels of alcohol and hop compounds and at pH values above 4.5 (Vaughan et al. 2005) and produce a fruity atypical aroma. Gram negative anaerobic bacteria such as Pectinatus cerevisiiphilus, Pectinatus frisingensis, Selenomonas lacticifex, Zymophilus raffinosivorans and Zymomonas mobilis are also potential beer spoilage microbes. Pectinatus species have found to greatly affect non-pasteurized beers rather than pasteurized ones. These anaerobic organisms ideally grow in packaged products between 15 and 40 °C with an optimum at 32 °C and at a pH of 4.5 (Vaughan et al. 2005). They are found to produce significant amounts of acetic acid, propionic acid and acetoin in wort and packaged beers. They also produce hydrogen sulphide and methyl mercaptan and cause considerable turbidity and an unpleasant ‘rotten egg’ odor in beer. Zymomonas mobilis is an organism widely used in the bio-ethanol synthesis. However, this species contaminates beer when it produces significantly higher levels of acetaldehyde and hydrogen sulphide. Gram negative aerobic bacteria such as Hafnia protea and Enterobacter cloacae also other agents which cause beer spoilage and are capable of surviving beer fermentation. Certain species of Saccharomyces are also organism causing beer contamination. The Cottage – Creative Writing

It was exactly a week after my first day at NFG, and I had brought both overnight- and sleeping bag with me to school, as had everyone else in my class – it was time for the ‘get to know each other'-trip. The ‘get to know each other'-trip is a trip were the new students can get to know each other. Every 1.g-class has to go, not alone of course. The class goes along with a pair of teachers and two older students: ‘Introes'. My class, Susanne, Steen Carl, our two introes Nadia and Jakob and I were going to Middelgrunden in Middelfart, so the time in the bus weren't long and only made shorter by song and small-talk. It took 5 minutes, after getting off of the bus, to reach our destination: The Cottage, a nice and small place mainly used by scouts. After getting settled into our dormitories, we all joined in the large dining room for tea, cake and coffee. Then, after having stuffed our stomachs with homemade cake, we had to have an hour or two dedicated to our education. In that time we took some important behavior related problems up to debate, and we did so by being divided into six groups. We had to discuss the subject, then, create a presentation or sketch, which we had to use in front of the rest of the class to get the debate started. When we finished we had a set of ground rules about our behavior in class. Then, we had to do an Orienteering's race, which our introes had put together. To keep us busy I suspect, and we were busy, busy having fun and getting to know each other through songs and dancing. As we got closer to dinnertime, something strange happened: the boys disappeared, into the kitchen, to make Spaghetti Bolognese, and it wasn't that bad. After dinner everybody seemed to need some time relaxing, and some of the boys and girls wanted to do so in water, and even though Jakob hadn't brought a bathing suit, some of the boys still figured, that he should get into the water with them; poor Jakob got absolutely soaked through and through. Then Dee figured something out, they weren't the only ones relaxing in the ocean; the jellyfish had arrived. When everybody was back at the cottage, and everybody had dried off, it was the introes turn figure something, everybody had to show them what kind of song they'd sung, dance they'd danced and any other kind of entertainment we had created during the O-race. When we were done with the performances, everybody was tired and there were only one more thing we needed to figure out for the day, a theme for the 1.g-party, we finally reached an agreement about a Christmas-theme (Elves, Santa Claus etc.) After that we were free to do as we wanted, whether we wanted sleep or games. The next day we had to get up early and eat breakfast, so that we could cram some time for educational purposes into the mix of cleaning and packing. We ended up having sort of like a civics test, which was fun. Then, all that was left was the bus ride home to the school, and getting home afterwards. As for the conclusion about the small trip with my new class, I've figured; we had fun and the trip served its purpose, as I now know a class filled with great people.

The law allows that a contract can be created by the parties in writing or it can also be created only. The contracts that have been created in writing may use formal or informal terms. In the same way, even an entirely verbal contract can also be enforced by the law. However in such a case, it may be difficult to establish the terms of such a contract. Hence, a contract can be described as a promise that has been made by two or more parties and on the basis of which, a judgment can be made by the courts. There are certain essential elements that have to be present in an agreement due to which the agreement becomes a valid contract. If any of these elements is not present, the agreement is not a valid contract and consequently, the courts cannot enforce such an agreement. The first such element is that of offer. Under the contract law, and offers or a promise has to be made in the contract. If there is no offer, there can be no contract. It is the first element that has to be present for the purpose of making a contract legally enforceable. In order to make an offer, at least there should be two parties. The parties should have the legal capacity to enter into a contract. In case the offer has been accepted and other elements are present, it will amount to a legally enforceable contract. When the offer is being made, the other party comes to know what is being offered and what the other party is expecting in return. It also needs to be noted that a difference exists between and offer and an invitation to treat. The law provides that an invitation to treat is made by a party when it invites the other party to make an offer. On the other hand, if a counter offer has been made, the original offer is no longer available to such a party. Hence the party making the counter offer is not allowed by the law to accept the original offer later on. The law provides that an offer can be accepted by only the party to whom it has been made. The acceptance is also required to be communicated to the other party. Merely a mental decision to accept the offer which ha s not been communicated to the other party does not amount to a valid acceptance. Anytime before the offer has been accepted, it can be withdrawn. In Felthouse v Bindley (1862), it was stated that silence cannot amount to the acceptance of the offer. An exception is present to the general rule which requires the communication of acceptance. This acceptance is present in case of unilateral contracts. An example of such a case was seen in Carlill v. Carbolic Smoke Ball Co. (1893). There is an exception present to the general rule according to which the acceptance becomes effective only when it has been communicated to the party making the offer. Hence the postal rule provides that when post has been contemplated by the parties for the purpose of the exchange of promises, the rule regarding the time of acceptance changes. While an offer that has been sent by post is not effective unless it has been received by the offeree, the acceptance will be considered to be effective as soon as the letter containing acceptance is put in the mailbox (Adams v Lindsell, 1818). On the other hand, in Entores Ltd v Miles Far East Corp (1955), it was stated by the code that when a party has sent the acceptance of the offer by using an instantaneous mode of communication, the contract is considered to be effective only when such acceptance has been received by the other party. The next requirement that is present for the creation of the valid contract is that of consideration. Under the contract law, consideration means the thing that will be given back by the other party in return of the promise made under the contract. It amounts to an exchange that takes place between the promisee and the promisor. Without consideration, a legally enforceable contract cannot be created. There are certain rules related with consideration. The law of contract provides that consideration should move from the promisor. The law also provides that past consideration is not a good consideration (Roscorla v Thomas, 1842). In the same way, the law provides that consideration needs to be sufficient but the courts are not going to the question of adequacy of consideration. Consideration can be of two types, executory consideration and executed consideration. In case of executory consideration, an exchange of promises takes place for performing acts in the future, for example a contract related with the supply of goods according to which A dozen made a promise to deliver goods to B at some future date and in return, a promise is made by B to play on delivery. In case A fails to deliver the goods, it can be considered as a breach of contract and B can sue A. If the goods are delivered by A the consideration becomes executed. Similarly if something has been done in context of business and both the parties clearly understood that it will be paid for, then also the past consideration is treated as good consideration (Re Casey's Patents, 1892). These principles were also followed by the Privy Council in Pao On v Lau Yiu Long (1980). The Law contract also provides regarding consideration that it should be something of a value even if the courts do not go into the issue of legacy of consideration. The result of this position is that things like natural love and affection are not treated by the law as good consideration (Eastwood v Kenyon (1840). Another requirement related with creating a valid contract is the intention of the parties to enter into a legal relationship. This invention is essential for a valid contract. In this way, the law requires that while entering into the agreement, the parties should have the intention that they are going to enter a legal relationship. The purpose behind the introduction of this requirement is to differentiate between purely social/domestic agreements and the agreements that have been created in context of trade and commerce. Without this requirement, even the routine promises that are made by us in our daily life will also become legally enforceable and the courts will be burdened with a large number of cases. Therefore, a promise made by a friend to go to dinner or a promise made by the father to purchase a new bicycle is not enforceable by law if the parties did not have the intention of creating a legal relationship. Certainty is the next element that should be present in a valid contract. The law contract requires that the terms and conditions that have been mentioned by the parties in the agreement should have been mentioned clearly and understood by the parties. In case the terms of the agreement are not certain, such a contract is not a valid contract. According to the contract law, another element that should be present in a valid contract is the capacity of the parties. In this context, capacity to contract means the legal capacity of the parties to enter into a contract. According to the Law, minors, the persons of unsound mind, persons under intoxication etc. are not allowed by the law to create a valid contract. In Nash v Inman (1908), Nash was a tailor who had entered into a contract for supplying Inman, a student at Cambridge for the supply of 11 fencing waistcoats. At that time, Inman was a minor and he already had an adequate supply of clothes. When the cost of these coats was claimed by Nash, Inman tried to rely on his lack of capacity and succeeded. The court stated that like a lunatic, a minor is also not capable of making a contract in the strict sense of the word. However if a person satisfies the needs of the minor or lunatic and supplies the necessaries of life to such a person, it will be implied that such person has an obligation to repay for these services and this obligation can be enforced against the estate of the minor or the lunatic. But it needs to be mentioned that the basis of this obligation is not contractor but instead the obligation to make a fair payment regarding the needs of the minor that have been satisfied by another person. Therefore, it can be said that a contract created with a minor or a lunatic is voidable under the common law except the necessities of life supply to the minor. In this way, a minor can enter into a contract for supplying the articles at a reasonable price that are reasonable and necessary for supporting the minor in his station in life if the minor does not have a sufficient supply of such articles. However, such a contract can become enforceable only if the two following conditions are satisfied.
